Help Avoid Chargebacks
10 Things You Can Do To Lower Chargebacks
1. Screen out customers who have already issued a Chargeback against another company like yours. Badcustomer.com provides this service for free.
2. Always use CVV2. If you’re unfamiliar with this, it is a credit code often used by merchants to indentify "card not present" transactions occurring over the Internet, by mail, fax, or over the phone. In many countries, due to increased attempts at card fraud, it is now mandatory to provide this code when the cardholder is not present in person.
3. Use Verified by Visa / Secure Code by Mastercard.
4. Use AVS address verification of customer billing.
5. Use a 3rd party fraud screening and Chargeback prevention service provider like Verifi or Vindicia. These services also help to identify Bin and Geo IP areas that have higher than normal Chargebacks in order to help you manage how the customer is processed and handled by your customer service.
6. Improve Customer Service. Studies show that excessive hold times and poor customer service can cause a dramatic increase in Chargebacks. We recommend customer service centers such as PNI-KMPG, Inc. which are sensitive to the Chargeback issue.
7. FTC Compliance. To reduce Chargebacks it is very important your customer fully understands what they are buying and agreeing to. Here is a link to FTC information on marketing a fully compliant offer. Click Here.
8. Make sure your billing information and disclosures are listed in a clear and obvious location, such as directly below the Order button on your shopping-cart page.
9. If you include a negative option, it must be clearly noted in your disclosure.
10. Make certain that your Customer Service number is clearly listed in a prominent location on your confirmation pages and emails.
